En las Pruebas de Unidad I notice the questions and directions are in Spanish. In your experience, do teachers actually expect beginner students to understand these, or do they read them in English?

All content written in Spanish is meant to be adminstered in Spanish, particularly in the tests. These tests when administered at the start of the year and/or unit are designed to help you determine the proficiency level. You then administer the tests after the unit to see what they have learned.  If the student is not able to understand certain sentences or words you can then design your future lessons to target these gaps. It is encouraged to read through the tests at the start of the unit and try to use the phrases and vocabulary in the classroom as much as possible to expose them to the phrases that they will then see on the tests.
